Creating Special Reports

eReports meet the needs of immediate usable information. With a quick read people feel like they have learned something and can make progress in achieving a desired outcome.

Do they sell?
People look for reports to find a quick solution without having to read a 200 page book. People buy step-by-step instructional reports to use the information today. People keep these reports because they’ve paid for them. Most reports sell for $6.

They are often purchased in multiples of three. Grouping reports is encouraged to give consumers more value.

An example grouping might be, "Dealing with Guilt", "Learn not to Blame", and "The Ultimate Apology". This sample would be referenced under Healthful Living, and Personal Rapport.

eReports can also offer indirect sales by promoting other materials written by the same author. See "resources" below.

The Structure of an eReport:

Title: Open with a title that offers a benefit readers want to achieve. Tell them exactly what they will get by reading your special report.

Opening Paragraph: Focus on the reader, and what the benefit addresses: Their pain; fear; or something important they want.

Keep them Reading: Let them know you have solutions to their pain or fear; that they will achieve what they are looking for. Remind them of their situation now, and what they will gain by reading the report.

Content: Provide the step by step instructions the reader needs to make progress. Give them all the information and details they need, including names, addresses, phone numbers and website addresses, keeping it fairly concise. Tell them what to do, when and how to do it, and when not to.

Conclusion: Remind the reader of what they get when they follow your instructions and what they get or lose if they don't.

Resources: Offer information of what else you can do for them; information that makes them feel it was worth the price and would buy from you again. Do not offer a list of credentials or biographical details.

Offer Client Benefits: Provide information on related books or reports the reader might benefit from. This builds trust, encouraging the reader to look for you again in the future.

Do NOT list Author Features: Studied at University; on the Board of Directors; etc. These belong in your biography.

A few tips for writing effective eReports:

  • Always use “you" language. Speak directly to your reader
  • Help your reader make step by step progress to their goal, by keeping sentences and paragraphs short.
  • Divide your report into sections using sub-headings with benefits.
  • Use emotion, be human. Motivate your reader through humor, tough-love and any other emotion to help them achieve their goals.
  • Invite your reader to contact you through Vidaville.com, to nurture the relationship and encourage them to read other books and reports by you.

Length

Keep your eReport between 5 and 10 pages.
