For
the past 30 years Dieter Keck has made the shores of the Magnetawan River his
home. Designing and constructing his own home, and building most of his furniture
has proven his love for creation and invention. Further in his desire to create,
the 1980’s saw him redesign his home to accommodate the operation of
his “Whitewater Restaurant.”
In the 1990’s, in his capacity as a Technical
Consultant for the Natural Gas for Automobile Industry, Dieter
invented and developed a multitude
of products, several of which he holds a patent to, and has travelled
extensively in Europe, Asia, Russia and North and South America
introducing and promoting
these products.
Over the years Dieter has concentrated on woodworking, designing and constructing
kitchen cabinets and islands, spiral staircases, furniture, and restoration
of antique furniture.
His ongoing creative mind brought him to the day
he found a burl (an abnormal growth on the side of a tree) that
caught his eye and was moved to carve
it into something… something beautiful! Since that day he has hand-crafted
out of burls and tree roots a series of exquisite bowls, sculptures
and coffee tables - too beautiful for words.
While reflecting on and critiquing his work, Dieter
realized that his creative carving found “the soul of the wood” in
each of his original pieces.
“The Soul of the Wood” is what YOU will
experience and enjoy from every piece you encounter! Dieter accentuates
the natural blemishes and imperfections to bring out the beauty of
the wood to lend character to the creations
of Mother Nature.
Dieter has exhibited his unique carvings at the
Parry Sound Station Gallery in February and October 2003, in the
Ticket Wicket of the Gallery in November
2003 and the North Landing Restaurant at Whitestone Lake Resort in
Dunchurch, as well as at several Canadian Wood Shows. He has won
first prizes in 2002
and 2004 at the Dunchurch Agricultural Fair as well as Judge’s Choice
in 2004, second and third in the category “ornamental / interpretive” in
the Upper Canada Wood Carving Championship at the 2002 Woodstock
Wood Show and third prize and honourable mention at the 2002 Hamilton
Wood Show.
