Celebrate Simply
Your Guide to Simpler, More Meaningful Holidays and Special Occasions

Christmas is coming our way and many of us have already started thinking of gifts they will buy for their relatives and friends. Though it's supposed to be fun and exciting to buy and wrap presents, a lot of people become trapped in a credit-card-dimension finding it hard to pay off bills on time. To avoid stress after the holiday season and bankruptcy, here are some tips on how to achieve that.

Set a budget. You have to be realistic about your purchases so create a list of people for whom you're buying presents and write down the limit of money you're willing to spend on each person. You might also consider doing 'Secret Santa' with your family or friends to save the money to pay your priority bills.

Compare prices. It's always a good idea to start shopping early to look for better deals on items you want to buy. You might also find incredible bargains at discount stores in your neighborhood and save hundreds of dollars. The best last minute solution for finding Christmas gifts is over the Internet where you can use a search engine to get the lowest prices on what you want.

Do not get a store card. This is a poor financial move because even though you get discounts in the store, it only motivates impulsive buying. Plus, depending on the shop the interest rates could exceed 30%, paying more on interest then the gift and losing any savings.
