How To Decorate A Tuscany Style Kitchen

Get that Relaxed Mediterranean Vibe

By:Charlylou S.

Bring a touch of rustic romance, and the relaxed Mediterranean feel, into your home. Create a mood of wholesome and hearty family meals, the enticing smell of olives, wine, and fresh, crusty bread. Feel the beauty of the Tuscan landscape all around you, as you recreate a Tuscany style kitchen, in your own home.

To really get the look right, you've got to choose the right colors -- warm, earthy colors are ideal for Tuscan kitchen decorating. They will give a perfect rustic feel to your kitchen. Try golden yellows, terracotta and burnt orange. Then add a little burgundy, olive green or Mediterranean sea-blues. Always go for a muted tone, and never pick a vibrant or pastel tone, to make sure you get the look right. Use textured paints, rough plastering or faux-paint finishes on the walls, to get that genuine, weathered, rustic look.

Use natural materials wherever possible in your Tuscan style kitchen. Stone, slate, granite, marble and limestone are all great choices for countertops and flooring. Wood is also a very good choice. Make sure your wood is solid, chunky looking, and slightly distressed -- no pristine finishes here, please.

Why not try getting creative with some mosaics and colored tiles on countertops, table tops, splash backs and flooring. Remember to stick to those traditional Tuscan colors though.

A great idea for a splash back, if you don't fancy the mosaic thing, is to incorporate a Tuscan landscape or painting into your splash back design. This will really set the scene to play out in Tuscany for you. Choose village landscapes, rural idylls, vineyards and farmhouses, to get a really authentic look.

Choose rustic looking, and old-fashioned furniture -- the more distressed, the better. So look out for some great second hand bargains.

Add plenty of wrought-iron work into your scheme. Look out for chairs and tables with wrought-iron detailing, also chandeliers, candelabras, wall sconces, wine racks and plant stands.

Accessorize your Tuscan style kitchen with rustic pottery bowls. pitchers, bottles and jars. Add decorative display bottles, containing peppers, olives, oranges and lemons. Hang strings of garlic, and bunches of herbs from the ceiling to dry, for that truly authentic touch.

Tastefully add a few, carefully executed, stencils, with grapes and grapevines as their theme, to bring to mind the Tuscan landscape, and a relaxed holiday glass of wine.

Make sure you sit back and relax, admire and enjoy your Tuscany style kitchen, with a meal of simple Tuscan fare, and a well-earned glass of soothing wine.
