What A Difference A Lamp can Make

By: Clea Mettarod

Lighting really makes a difference in a room. It sets the mood and sometimes even defines what you can and can’t do there. Low lights, of course, aren’t great for reading, but they’re perfect for a cozy evening with your sweetie. There are a ton of creative options for lighting. It’s worth it to think about what mood you want and explore the tons of variations that are available.

You can actually create something like starlight in a room, for example. You can buy a light with little pinprick holes that casts little stars all around a dark room. Or, you can get those cool glow-in-the-dark stickers of stars and planets. During the day, they charge with light and at night they’ll glow for you.

Candles are another option for that evening glow you’re after. They come in almost an infinite variety of shapes, sizes, colors and containers. And they’re so romantic! I always have several candles in every room of my home, especially the bedroom. Be sure to use safe containers and blow them out before you go to sleep.

Of course, lamps come in all kinds of shapes and sizes, too. With a variety of lampshades and bulb wattages and colors you can create any mood you desire for any room in your home. I have a reading light by the bed that’s a full spectrum bulb. Then there’s my little 60-watt lamp with the tan shade for a warm glow. I also have one tall floor lamp for times when I want to really light the whole room. I’ve got great windows, so during the day, I don’t turn on any lights at all.

Be creative with your lighting and pay attention to the moods you want to create, not just in the bedroom, but the whole house. It doesn’t cost much to use a nice bulb or add a new lamp or two for different moods. Get more information online at Lighting.com where you can find articles on how to create the lighting you desire. Search for other resources, too! And have fun doing it!
