The Truth About Natural Menopause Treatment

Natural menopause treatment is a hot topic these days. Store shelves and Web sites are filled with all sorts of herbal and other types of natural treatments. While natural treatment is certainly possible, many of the herbal and natural treatments on the market today do not live up to their claims, and worse, can actually be dangerous.

Much of the reason a natural treatment such as taking back cohosh for hot flashes may not work is because the herbal remedy industry is not highly regulated. Some brands of herbal and other natural treatments may simply not have a high enough concentration of the needed herb. Some may not use the proper part of the herb. Also, for women with severe symptoms, natural treatment is likely not to be effective because they need true estrogen replacement such as is available in Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT).

Pursuing a course of natural treatment is not a bad thing, though, especially for women who only have mild or moderate symptoms. Still, a woman should always see her physician before starting any type of natural treatment on her own. Some of the herbs and herb combinations found in natural treatments can interact with prescription medications with dangerous results. A woman should always consult her doctor to be sure that any natural treatment she's considering is safe for her to use. Also, it's just a smart thing for a woman experiencing menopause to have a complete physical examination to be sure that all her symptoms are just that and not something more serious.

When thinking about starting a natural treatment, it's always wise to do some research. There are many books on natural treatments available. There are also many online resources that have wonderful information on menopause and natural treatments. If a natural treatment has been tried with little success, don't despair. See a doctor because relief, whether it's in the form of a natural menopause treatment or a prescribed one, is out there waiting for you!
